Bio

Johnny Joestar (ジョニィ・ジョースター Joni Jōsutā?), born Jonathan Joestar (ジョナサン・ジョースター Jonasan Jōsutā?), is the main protagonist of the seventh installment of the series. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Steel Ball Race, and the seventh JoJo in the series. He also appears as a posthumous minor character in JoJolion. A former jockey turned paraplegic, Johnny enters the Steel Ball race to learn the secret of Gyro Zeppeli's steel balls, which are the only ones that can heal his legs. During the race, Johnny becomes both a Spin user and a Stand user when he acquires Tusk.

Stand:Tusk

Tusk ACT4 is the result of Johnny's use of Slow Dancer's power combined with the Golden Rectangle, which allows Johnny to shoot Golden Spin nails that have infinite rotation. ACT4 has the ability to expand the spatial wall of the D4C Love Train and indefinitely chain everyone who enters it to one place.

Friends

Gyro Zeppeli : Johnny and Gyro are friends, partners in the Steel Ball Run , and a student and master in the art of Spin . At first, Johnny's determination piqued Gyro's interest, leading to Gyro helping Johnny mount Slow Dancer before the race. After the first stage, Johnny gains Gyro's respect, leading to Gyro making him his Spin apprentice. Throughout the Steel Ball Run, this apprenticeship develops into a partnership and then a deep friendship. Despite their opposing personalities regularly leading to clashes over how to handle difficult situations, Gyro and Johnny ultimately get along well and share many moments of friendship. Gyro enjoys joking around with Johnny and tells him bad jokes or different songs, which Johnny usually appreciates. Due to their regular battles, Johnny and Gyro fight well together and consider each other valuable allies. Their friendship is such that each is willing to put themselves in danger for the other, with Johnny giving up his Corpse Parts on more than one occasion to save Gyro's life. In turn, Gyro often uses life-or-death situations as opportunities to help Johnny master the basics of the Spin and develop his Stand, Tusk . After Gyro's death, Johnny was devastated, and Valentine tries to use this fact to convince him to spare him and give up the Saint's Corpse. Gyro keeps Johnny's spirits up even after his death, when Johnny returns his corpse to the Zeppeli Family in Italy. Gyro's constant support helped Johnny out of his depression and allowed him to start his life anew. The two men's relationship is similar to Jonathan's relationship with Will or Joseph's relationship with Caesar . Araki personally enjoyed Jonathan and Zeppeli's relationship from Phantom Blood and wanted to retell it again to make a longer coming-of-age story. He decided to make Johnny and Gyro roughly the same age so that they would be less formal and more friendly than their original versions. [ 24 ] Lucy Steele : Johnny and Lucy are allies against Valentine, but have little interaction with each other. Mountain Tim : Mountain Tim was initially suspicious of Johnny as Benjamin Bumbum tricked him into believing that Johnny was killing competitors in a race, but the two later became allies in the fight against the Bumbum Family and the Oyecomova . Tim notably taught Johnny about the Devil's Palm and Stands .

Enemies

1.Funny Valentine : Because both were trying to collect the Saint's Corpse , Johnny and Valentine were enemies but did not interact much until their one fight. Due to his selfish motives, Valentine considered Johnny unworthy of the Corpse and tried to kill him, though he was wary of Johnny as Tusk was partially immune to his Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap . 2.Alternate Diego Brando : Since this version of Diego was recruited by Funny Valentine to take the Saint's Corpse from Johnny, it was only natural that the two would become enemies. Diego was wary of Tusk, who could partially move through the time he stopped, and similarly, Johnny learned of THE WORLD's power and feared him as well. 3.Dr. Ferdinand : Dr. Ferdinand was an assassin and Stand user hired by President Funny Valentine to kill Johnny and Gyro and collect the Corpse Parts. Using his Stand Scary Monsters , Ferdinand attempts to turn Johnny and Gyro into dinosaurs that obey his will, using Diego Brando, who had been transformed in the same way, to do so. 4.The Bumbum Family : A familial group of three Stand users, Andre Bumbum , Benjamin , and L.A. Bumbum , who use their talents to kill competitors in the Steel Ball Run, eventually targeting Johnny and Gyro. After failing to frame Johnny for the murders of several other participants, they attempt to kill Johnny, Gyro, and Mountain Tim directly, but fail when Johnny uses his Stand, Tusk, for the first time. 5.Oyecomova : Oyecomova is a Neapolitan assassin and terrorist who once encountered Gyro Zeppeli before he developed his Stand, Boku no Rhythm wo Kiitekure . He attempted to use this ability to kill Gyro and Johnny, but was no match for their combined skills in Spin . 6.Ringo Rodagain : A duelist working for Funny Valentine, Ringo Rodagain holds the philosophy that a real man should put his life on the line to prove his worth. He notes that Johnny has a " dark determination " to kill if necessary, and thus has a chance against him. However, after incapacitating Johnny, he is defeated by Gyro.

Family

1.George Joestar II : Johnny had a complicated relationship with his father. On one hand, Johnny always sought his father's affection and approval. On the other hand, when George questioned whether "God had taken the wrong son", Johnny was deeply saddened and decided to give up on his love for his father, closing his heart. Johnny admitted to Valentine that he could not think of his own father with the same admiration that Valentine thought of his. However, towards the end of the Steel Ball Run, George appears in the crowd and shows Johnny Nicholas' boots, finally reconciling with his son. Johnny named his son after George. 2.Nicholas Joestar : As his older brother, Nicholas was a role model. Johnny admired him since childhood and feels excessive guilt over his death, believing that the universe cursed him for it. 3.Danny : While Jonathan and Danny the dog shared a childhood together, Johnny only saw the mouse as a temporary pet. When Nicholas died, Johnny believed that Danny, and therefore he, was responsible for frightening the horse Nicholas was riding and causing his death. Johnny retains good memories of the mouse, but also disturbing ones, even calling for it when he is under the influence of Civil War . 4.Rina Higashikata : Johnny and Rina's relationship began after the race and lasted for several years. Soon after they met, they fell in love and got married, living happily for some time. After she falls ill, Johnny goes on a quest to find corpse parts as a cure. His love for Rina is so deep that he sacrifices himself to save her and their son. 5.George Joestar III : Johnny loved his son deeply. When the Stone Disease passed to him, Johnny sacrificed himself to save George and admitted that he was happy to have him in his life. 6.Daughter : The daughter he had with Rina. She only appears in the Joestar family tree.

Personality

Johnny Joestar is a depressed former jockey who clings to the hope of regaining the use of his legs with the help of Spin and later the Corpse Part during the Steel Ball Run . Johnny is introduced as a distant paraplegic whose career was ruined when he was shot in the spine after overconfidently angering a bystander. [ 8 ] After witnessing Gyro use the Steel Balls and Spin and how they allowed him to momentarily stand on his feet, Johnny becomes determined to follow him and have him teach the Spin, [ 9 ] and then, after discovering the Corpse Parts that make his legs twitch, acquire them. Johnny Darkness Dark determination Johnny is stubborn in his determination to follow Gyro and then hunt down the Corpse. Regardless of the risks or consequences, Johnny is focused on his goal and puts it above all else. Several times, Johnny has suffered grievous injuries in order to achieve his goal, most notably while attempting to mount his horse Slow Dancer, which left him with multiple bruises and a wooden splinter in his leg; [ 10 ] despite repeated failures, his determination to compete in the race has not weakened. Conversely, Johnny has no qualms about being brutal and killing his opponents to obtain Corpse Parts. Gyro Zeppeli mentioned that Johnny had a " dark determination " in his eyes, indicating a ruthlessness that drove Johnny to kill in cold blood. [ 11 ] This amoral selfishness still extends to the interests of his loved ones and haunts him throughout his life, demonstrated years after the Steel Ball Run when his wife Rina was afflicted with the Rock Disease , Johnny then stole the Corpse to beg for it to pass on the disease from her, not caring who would receive it and suffer in her stead. [ 12 ] However, Johnny is not entirely amoral: for example, he objects to involving the defenseless Lucy Steel in their fight for the Corpse, [ 13 ] and eventually takes the Rock Disease for himself to save his son. [ 14 ] What did you just say Shocked that his father believed God had taken the wrong son. During the Steel Ball Run, Johnny was burdened by depression and a subsequent lack of self-confidence. Johnny considered himself a worthless person, and his gloomy outlook on life stemmed from his youth. As a child, Johnny was a timid but kind child, who adopted a wild mouse and named it Danny . Although he was afraid of his stern father, George Joestar , he tried to live up to his father's expectations. Johnny idolized his older brother, Nicholas , but when Nicholas died after falling from a horse that Danny seemed to have scared, Johnny became filled with guilt, believing that he was to blame for his brother's death and that he should have died. He then spent many years believing that fate itself was taking revenge on him for his crime and that every misfortune he received was actually deserved. [ 2 ] This led to his obsession with the Corpse's blessing, which would return his karma to a neutral "zero" state instead of the "negative" state of his curse. This also explains Johnny's rampant self-doubt and near-constant panic attacks, [ 15 ] [ 16 ] as he believed that fate could take away his hope of finding the Corpse at any moment. When Johnny's father disowned him, Johnny withdrew into himself, creating a facade of complacency to hide the sadness this rejection caused him. Johnny thinking about Gyro Johnny fondly remembers Gyro Zeppeli Johnny's outlook improved greatly after meeting Gyro Zeppeli. Having met someone who gave him hope and was genuinely kind to him, Johnny felt grateful [ 17 ] for meeting the Italian Executioner and cherished the relationship, at one point being willing to give up the Corpse Parts he had to save his friend. [ 18 ] Gyro repeatedly brought Johnny out of his state of insecurity and helped him obtain Corpse Parts, giving him confidence and optimism in life. As reflected in the numerous ACTs of his Stand , Tusk , the improvement was gradual, with key stages of progress being locating Johnny's Corpse (ACT1), [ 19 ] then defending himself from Soundman (ACT2), [ 20 ] symbolically cleansing himself of his guilt towards Axel RO and being blessed by the appearance of Jesus Christ (ACT3) , [ 21 ] and finally finding the Corpse and restoring the functionality of his legs (ACT4). [ 22 ] Although Gyro died, Johnny retained a good memory of everything that happened. While during the race, Johnny was indifferent to everyone except himself and Gyro, maintaining at best a polite but cold attitude towards the people he met, under Gyro's influence, Johnny became more friendly towards people, leading to his marriage to Rina Higashikata . [ 23 ]

Appearance

Johnny is a young man of slim to medium build. He has light eyes and shoulder-length light hair that curls upward at the ends. Johnny always wears a knitted cap with many small five-pointed stars on it. His hair sticks out from holes on either side of the top of his head, shaped like short horns. A horseshoe hangs down from the front, framing an image of a dark silhouette of a horse's rearing head. Although it is not visible, Johnny bears the Joestar birthmark , which Lucy Steel knows about . [ 7 ] Johnny wears similar pants with a star pattern; part of the shoe has W spurs . He usually wears a light-colored hooded top with short sleeves, decorated with thick cord-shaped lines (later, heart-shaped patches decorating both shoulders). A long feather (trimmed in black with a single black spot at the tip) emerges from under the collar at the back, and he has cuffs with stars and stripes on his wrists. As a child, Johnny wears a blue long-sleeved top with stars on them, a light blue coat tied at the waist, as well as light brown pants and light blue boots. [ 2 ] In cold weather, Johnny wears a long-sleeved top of a similar design. Its collar is trimmed with fur, and he holds several feathers behind his back. Because Johnny is a paraplegic, he can be seen in a wheelchair before the race begins, but during the race he is usually seen riding his horse, Slow Dancer . Over the course of the series, Johnny gradually gains a more realistic appearance, with slightly wavy hair and a fuller build.
